Unlike the Ford Mustang in the USA, not many Falcon coupes are left in
Australia. I can drive around for weeks and never see one on the road.
That means that these days, the selection of a suitable base car will involve a compromise.
The days of looking in the paper and checking out the best few coupes in your price range have been gone
now almost 20 years!
Now weeks and weeks can pass without a coupe even being advertised.
Decades ago Ford Australia discontinued any factory replacement parts. Limited amounts of
reproduction parts can be purchased, but at many many times the original cost.
These reproduction parts are the parts that we use. Yet even the parts gene pool is shrinking quite fast.
The good news is that the Mad Max coupe drive
train, composed of a 351 Cleveland V8, a Toploader gearbox, and a 9"
diff were also USA Mustang items. So drive train parts are still available.
Body panels such as doors and front fenders are shared between panel vans and utes (doors) and the whole XB range in term of front
fenders. Yet even good doors are not very common.
So with the reality of base car and parts
availability in mind, we can discuss the prices and information on the
Mad Max Replicas that we build and sell.
